Also decide whether the zipper should be exposed, covered or set below the top edge. Each option changes the look and sewing sequence. A recessed zipper can give a neat finish, but it introduces an additional panel that must be measured and aligned.

A custom puller can be a useful brand detail, but it adds development and approval work. If timing is tight, a standard puller with a branded fabric tab may be a practical compromise. Test the puller with one hand while the bag is loaded; a stylish shape is not helpful if it is hard to grip.
Fabric, lining and pockets need to be planned together
Many zipper totes benefit from a lining because it hides internal seam allowances and creates a cleaner interior. The lining also provides a place to add a pocket, label or key loop. Those features should be positioned before the zipper panel is finalized so they do not interfere with stitching or reduce access.
For an unlined bag, ask how the inside of the zipper seam will be finished. Binding can improve the appearance, but it adds material and labor. The right choice depends on whether the bag is a low-cost promotion or a retail item customers will inspect closely.
Use the sample to test behavior, not just appearance
- Pack the tote with the real products and check the usable opening.
- Open and close the zipper repeatedly, including around any tight end area.
- Carry the loaded bag and watch for distortion along the zipper seam.
- Set the bag down full and check whether the slider is under tension.
- Look inside for loose threads, exposed edges and snag points.
- Confirm that the logo remains centered when the bag is loaded.
If an open-top tote is being used as the visual reference, list which details carry over and which do not. The panel size, print layout and handle length may remain useful. The top construction, lining and finished height may need to be redesigned.
Keep the RFQ measurable
For accurate quotations, provide finished dimensions, fabric and weight, lining, closure construction, zipper color, puller, pockets, handle length, logo method, packing and quantity. Add a tolerance for the bag and logo position. If the supplier recommends a change, request a revised spec sheet rather than leaving the decision in a chat message.

Bulk quality checks
During inspection, check zipper alignment, slider movement, end security, puckering along the top seam and consistency of the finished opening. Compare several units from different cartons with the approved sample. For bags packed flat, confirm that folding does not put a permanent bend in the zipper or leave the front panel badly creased.
The closure should be checked with the intended load, not only on an empty bag. That is where stress at the zipper ends and top corners becomes visible.
