Buyer quick answer
Wholesale paper shopping bags should be specified by contents and load, finished dimensions, paper or board grade and grammage/caliper basis, gusset and bottom construction, handle and reinforcement, print/finish, inspection, moisture protection and carton plan.
Claim boundary: brown kraft appearance or paper content does not prove recycled percentage, FSC or other certification, recyclability in every market, compostability, food-contact suitability, water resistance, load capacity or environmental superiority.

Create a paper-bag-specific RFQ
- Contents, total load, product edges, channel, destination and carrying distance.
- Paper/board grade, fiber/claim evidence, grammage or caliper basis, color and finish.
- Finished width, height, gusset, bottom, top fold, handle and reinforcement.
- Artwork version, print method/colors/coverage, coating or lamination and finishing.
- SKU quantities, load/appearance criteria, unit bundling, moisture protection and cartons.
Define paper and claims precisely
State paper or board grade, grammage with the measurement basis or caliper, color, surface and any wet-strength, coating or lamination. Ask how lots will be identified and compared with the approved sample.
For recycled, certified-fiber, compostable, recyclable or food-contact claims, define the destination and exact claim, then verify current scope-specific documentation. Printing, adhesives, handles and laminates can affect the finished-bag claim.
Design around the contents and load
List item dimensions, total weight, hard edges, temperature/moisture condition and carrying distance. Check fit, center of gravity, gusset opening, bottom shape, handle comfort and deformation with representative contents.
If load capacity will be stated, define load, distribution, lift/carry method, duration, conditioning and failure criteria. A thick-looking sample is not a load specification.
Control bottom, side seams and top fold
Specify side-gusset depth, bottom construction, adhesive areas, top fold, handle-patch dimensions and reinforcement. Inspect alignment, glue coverage, open seams, wrinkles, crushed folds and contamination.
Test after representative storage and transport because compression, humidity and temperature can alter paper and adhesive performance.
Select and verify the handle system
Twisted or flat paper handles, cord, ribbon, die-cut openings and other systems need different attachments and reinforcement. Define material, length/drop, color, end treatment, hole/eyelet or patch and placement.
Check symmetry, pullout, tear, sharpness and comfort using the agreed load. Decorative appearance alone does not establish carrying performance.
Approve print and finish on the proposed stock
Paper color, absorbency and texture influence ink and color appearance. Approve artwork file/version, method, color target, coverage, registration, position and tolerance on the proposed stock.
Foil, emboss/deboss, spot finish, varnish, coating or lamination add appearance and process controls. Check cracking at folds, rub, set-off, odor and blocking where relevant.
Use controlled samples and bulk gates
A white sample can confirm size and construction; a print proof or drawdown checks color and finish; a complete pre-production sample verifies the combined result. Identify each approval and record open differences.
Incoming, first-piece, in-line and final checks can cover material, dimensions, glue, handles, print, finishing, count and cartons. Final samples should represent SKUs and production periods.
Plan flat packing and moisture protection
Approve folding, bundling, orientation, inner protection, carton quantity, dimensions, weight and marks. Control pressure so folds remain usable without crushing handles or transferring print.
Define storage and transit moisture protection appropriate to the route. At receipt, inspect carton condition, moisture exposure, deformation, print transfer, glue and handle function before distribution.
Compare commercial scope and logistics
MOQ can arise from paper purchasing, color, print setup, finishing, handles, tooling, packaging or quantity per SKU. Ask which input creates each minimum.
Normalize material, construction, setup, samples, finishing, unit bundling, cartons, inspection, evidence, freight basis, Incoterm and destination. Flat-packed carton volume and weight affect landed cost.

Frequently asked questions
Does kraft paper mean recycled paper?
No. Verify fiber content and any certification or recycled claim for the actual paper and order.
Are paper bags automatically recyclable?
No. Coatings, laminates, adhesives, handles, contamination and local collection rules can affect the claim.
How should carrying strength be checked?
Define representative contents, load distribution, lift/carry method, duration, conditioning and failure criteria.
What should be retained for reorders?
Keep the material/claim evidence, drawings, approved sample, artwork, inspection, packing and receiving records.
